The vision for the Bible Baptist Church is to create a welcoming, collaborative, and timeless environment that reflects both the church’s practice of scripture and its heart for the community. By transforming the existing facility into a more open and engaging space, the design will support worship while also fostering fellowship, outreach, and service. The design will integrate wayfinding and circulation practices into the design to provide an intuitive churchgoing experience. Accessibility will be incorporated to accommodate for older generations and ensure inclusivity in the church. The design will also include updated branding and signage for the interior and exterior to communicate the church’s mission and make navigating easier. At the heart of the redesign, a new community center will serve as a space for outreach - bringing people together and establishing a haven for the Belmont community.

The entryway is the first area visitors will see. It features a reception desk where a staff member can assist with any questions. A small seating area provides a comfortable waiting space, complemented by a wall map of Dayton, Ohio. Clear signage will also be displayed to help new visitors easily find their way around the congregation

The welcome area is a place where the congregation can feel comfortable and connected. It can also serve as an information hub for new visitors. This space can host small events, coffee hours, outreach programs, and conversations that help strengthen relationships and foster growth within the community.

The restrooms are gender neutral and ADA accessible for those using a wheelchair. This will ensure that inclusivity is a part of the design. Materials will be updated to modern standards including non-slip tile, water resistant sealing, and grab rails.

The children’s ministry is an updated space that feels inviting to the youth. An independent space for a youth worship service can help them connect with the word of God more engagingly. The space allows for hands-on activities and demonstrations as well as play and lounging.

The sanctuary’s placement remained the same but was enhanced to create a more updated look while preserving its traditional charm. The design keeps the classic pews and incorporates wooden beams, wainscoting, arched windows and doors, and beautiful stained glass. The overall style blends rustic and traditional elements with traditional features, ensuring that longtime members of the congregation still recognize and feel connected to their church.

The community center is where strangers can come in and find connection. Students, neighbors, and clubs can use it for events, meetings, studying, or as a refuge from home.

This vestibule is located at the back of the building and serves as a connection between both lower levels. It provides accessible circulation for individuals who use wheelchairs, allowing them to reach the other basement since there is only one elevator. The vestibule also includes an exterior exit that leads directly to the playground area. 

Updating the church’s branding and signage can enhance its visibility within the community, making the exterior more inviting and encouraging greater engagement. Currently, the church’s sign is not positioned near any road entrances and is partially obscured by the surrounding tree canopy, making it difficult to see. As a result, the signage does not clearly indicate the church’s location, which may cause confusion for visitors attempting to find the site. The church does not have an associated logo.

To further support the growth of Bible Baptist Christian Church’s congregation, a series of community-focused initiatives was proposed to strengthen connections beyond interior design considerations and to better address local needs. Potential partnerships could include Cleveland Elementary School (1.7 miles away), Immaculate Conception School (0.7 miles away), and Temple Christian School (1.1 miles away).

The use of social media platforms was also identified as an effective way to engage the local community. Sharing upcoming events, inspirational messages, and outreach opportunities can increase visibility and encourage greater participation in church activities.

Hosting free community dinners and distributing gifts to families in need. These gatherings may feature games and family-friendly activities alongside a shared home-cooked meal, creating opportunities for connection, hospitality, and lasting memories. Such events allow the church to engage with new community members through service and generosity.

Organizing clothing and shoe drives at local schools or within the community can provide essential support to families in need. Establishing a designated donation area helps streamline contributions and promotes broader community involvement.
